Mp3 is a music format, i.e. the music, just “cut”. Therefore, mp3 CDs contain songs that the usual ones. While usual CD can hold about 20 tracks, mp3 CDs has 60 or more. So, mp3 disc can contain 10-20 times more songs than the ordinary CD.

Mp3 is a compressed music. But that does not mean it’s a bad music. People who has invented this music format say that the size of a song is reduced due to the “cut” of frequencies the man can’t hear. So, there is almost no difference between mp3 music and the usual one. However, people with an ear for music feel the difference.

The word combination “mp3 disk” means CD with mp3 music. An experienced user immediately concludes that it contains many songs (probably several albums), but the quality of this music is “cut”.

MP3 format is short for MPEG Layer3. It is one of the streaming formats for saving and transmitting audio signal in digital form, so that one can download mp3 easily. It is mainly used for transmitting audio in real time through the network channels and for coding CD Audio.

MP3 is the streaming format. That means that the data is transmitted in streams of independent and separate information blocks (frames). To that end, initial coding signal is divided into the parts with the same length, called “frames” and encoded separately. At the time of decoding, the signal is formed of the sequence of decoded frames.

The latter, in turn, is achieved taking into account the characteristics of human hearing, including the effect of masking the weak signal of one frequency range with the strong signal of the neighboring range (if there is such) or previous frame that causes temporary reduction of ear sensitivity to the signal of the current frame. It also takes into account the inability of most people to distinguish between the signals lying below a certain level, which varies for different frequency ranges.

Such techniques are called “ adaptive coding ” and allow saving on the least important (in terms of human perception of sounding details). The compression ratio, and therefore the volume of additional quantization, are defined not by the format but by the user himself/herself during setting the coding parameters. The flow width (bitrate) in coding the signal, similar to CD Audio (44.1kHz 16Bit Stereo) varies from the largest (320 kb/s) to 96kbs and lower.

Generally, the term ”bitrate” means the overall level magnitude of flow, the amount of data transmitted per unit time. Therefore, it has nothing to do with the inner features of the flow structure; its doesn't matter if the stream contains mono, stereo or five-channel audio with the text in different languages, etc.

Tests conducted by the specially invited experienced experts, specialized in subjective assessment of sounding quality, couldn't distinguish the sounding of original track on CD from MP3 track with the compression ratio 6:1 (which means that the bitrate is 256kbs). However, the tests were performed on small amounts of material, which was also not so qualitative (the bitrate shouldn’t be less than 320kbs).

Despite their popularity, the lower bitrates doesn’t ensure adequate quality of coding, which (wrongly) gave MP3 the bad name of “amateur format”. Actually, even though the bitrate of 256kbs, and even 320kbs also doesn’t ensure the transparent coding, the differences from CD Audio, used for the coding of test MP3, can be compared to the differences of CD Audio itself from the initial analogue signal, from which it was obtained through digitization. Of course, there are some losses, but they’re insignificant from the point of view of people who find the quality of CD Audio adequate for download music. Actually, their detection is a non-trivial problem that can be solved on Hi-Fi equipment.

Today, MP3 format has two huge advantages over the other available formats of its kind. One of them is that none of the existing similar formats fully guarantees the stable conservation of sounding quality on high bitrates. However, MP3 format withstood the test of time.

There is also a lot of user-friendly software for mp3 download format, which reflects the second but not less important advantage: for the coming years (or even the whole decade), MP3 format will be in all but name standard. The reason is that the users (including the digital radios) made a lot of investment in it.

MP3 format has long remained unknown. The explosive growth of its popularity began several years ago, and caused the deposits of illegal MP3 files. Now the production of hardware, pocket and car MP3 players is well-established. So, MP3 format became the first widely recognized audio format after CD-Audio.

Even though MP3 format appeared long ago, all the newer formats, trying to take its place, proved to be amateur. They may or may not be good compared to MP3 format on low bitrates (depending on the track and the hearing features of specific person), but they can’t match MP3 format (256kbs... 320kbs).

Probably, the “monopoly” of MP3 format (on lower bitrates) in the computer area will be partially broken by the new format from Microsoft — WMA. But it’s too early to tell about it. On the other hand, the appearance of Microsoft on this market with such a strong development means fast elimination of unsuccessful branches AAC and VQF. But there's still hope that AAC will be finalized.

Now there is a lot (maybe even too many) sites with mp3 music, some of which even overlap. Therefore, you should execute mp3 music download only from the trusted sources.

So, you want find a necessary song (and something more) fast, quickly, free and without registration! Moreover, it should be easy to pre-listen the files. That's possible! Using Internet, you can easily find a necessary site with a lot of quality mp3 music and please your ear with your favorite music tracks.
